    Service Manager

    Meet Andrew! Andrew is the Acting Service Manager at Randwick Depot and started with State Transit in 1998 as an apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic before going on to work as a Tradesperson.

    Andrew has been lucky to perform numerous roles in his career. He has worked as a Fleet Condition Officer where he inspected vehicles to ensure they meet safety and reliability standards and investigated issue and faults. Andrew sees these early years as providing him with a great foundation in his career with lots opportunity to gain new skills and experience. "I learned a lot of my mechanical skills through on the job training and the courses State Transit provided but the best experience was gained from working along side a lot of great tradespeople from different trades."

    Andrew was able to gain great exposure during his 17 years with State Transit. "I had many opportunities to act in different roles at different locations throughout the organisation such as the Leading Hand, where I worked closely with Operations to prioritise work and meet peak requirements, attended breakdowns and dealt with contractors and supervising staff."

    Andrew went on to become a Service Coordinator for the Southern Region and is currently acting as the Service Manager at Randwick Depot. "This involves planning and scheduling maintenance work, organising parts for replacement and reconditioning, maintaining workshop plant & equipment, managing maintenance rosters, dealing with contractors and working with the Leading Hand to help meet our targets and KPI's."

    Andrew appreciates the development opportunities that have enabled him to progress in his career. "I have had the opportunity to complete Team Leadership and Frontline Management through State Transit which has helped me in current and previous roles".

    There are always new experiences to be had in Andrew's work and he appreciates being able to get out of the workshop and amongst the action. "One day when working in the CBD in the incident response truck, I had just finished a repair on a bus in Circular Quay when a realised the driver had a customer who needed medical assistance. With the First aid training I had been given through State Transit, I was able to assist the driver to manage the situation and keep the customer in relaxed and in a stable condition until the paramedics arrived."

    Andrew sees the value of his job as being a part of something bigger. "The best part of working for a company like STA is that you feel like you are helping people get to and from there destination. Working as part of a big team, everyone has to do there part to make it all happen and when you stop and think how many buses are out there and how many people catch them every day its amazing how it all comes together and you are apart of that."
