    Available positions and locations

Our Bus Operators work on a full time or part time shift basis Monday to Saturday, or on a casual basis when needed, usually at least three times a week.

Sundays are worked as voluntary overtime which is a great opportunity for Operators to maximise their earnings.

Bus Operators are assigned a home depot upon commencement, however the geographical mix of locations provides employees with opportunities to move closer to home without having to change their job. After six months, you will be eligible to apply for a transfer to one of our other depots located in:

    • NORTHERN REGION – Brookvale, Mona Vale & North Sydney

What is happening in Region 6?

In May 2017, the NSW Government announced a tender process will be held for a new private operator to deliver bus services in the Southern Region (Region 6). It is anticipated that bus services in the Southern Region will transfer to the new operator from July 2018.

State Transit has an ongoing need to recruit drivers in Region 6. All staff we employ in Region 6 between now and the time of transfer will have an ongoing employment guarantee with the new operator. They will transfer across with their existing pay, conditions and leave entitlements and have their previous service with State Transit recognised. For more information on how staff in Region 6 will be affected, please read our FAQ

If the regular 9-5 life isn’t for you, our full time staff work on a rotating roster. Shifts may include a mixture of mornings, afternoons, evenings or broken shifts spilt between the morning and evening. You are generally rostered to work 5 days over a 6 day period from Monday to Saturday. You can also boost your pay by nominating to work Sundays, which is paid as voluntary overtime.

If you’d prefer to have more regular hours, our part time staff are rostered to work set times each week. This is usually the same shift everyday in either the morning or afternoon peak periods. A part time roster is between 15-35 hours per week and is usually spread over 5 days between Monday to Friday only. Some depots may offer 2-3 days per week.
