Recruitment Process
State Transit’s selection process is designed to ensure the most capable applicants are selected based on skills, interest and job match. Application is online only through jobs.nsw and all correspondence is via email.

Your on-line application will be reviewed against the following criteria to determine which applicants have the most merit to progress to the next stage:
• School/Tafe achievements
• Genuine interest in an apprenticeship
• Your responses to the additional questions.
2. Pre-Interview Assessments
If your application progresses to this stage, you will be sent an email inviting you schedule a time to undertake an ability test. The ability tests that we use are designed to assess your aptitude in the areas of mechanical comprehension, spatial reasoning and verbal comprehension. These ability tests are timed, and you will receive practice questions prior to each test and the opportunity to ask any questions.
3. Work Style Questionnaire
If you application progresses to this stage, you will be sent an email inviting you to participate in an online Work Style Questionnaire. This questionnaire needs to be done when you have a quite space for at least 1 hour with no disruptions. If you are unable to access a computer to complete the online questionnaire, you can make an appointment with our recruitment consultants to complete the online questionnaire at State Transit’s Recruitment unit.
4. Interview
Once you have completed this online questionnaire another email will be sent to you asking you to schedule an interview time.
The interview will be conducted by a panel of 3 including representatives from the business and Human Resources. You will be asked to discuss examples of your experience and achievements to date and to discuss your work preferences and interests.
5. Reference check
Two of your referees will be contacted to conduct a reference check. This should include teachers or people who have supervised your work and can comment on your work performance.
6. Medical
If you application progresses to this stage, you will be required to attend a medical with a company nominated by State Transit. The medical will assess your physical suitability to the role. You will also be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test. This is a requirement in the role of an Apprentice, as an Apprentice is classified as a Transport Safety Worker.
